HRH Kate Middleton Supports Children’s Respite Homes

Connor’s House is attempting to bring this model of care for families of children with life-shortening conditions here to the United States.  In the UK there are more than 40 houses helping these families, but in the United States we have only two.

Her Royal Highness Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, recorded a video to Children’s Hospice Week on how much she believes in this model in the UK, and we’ve posted it to our site for you to watch.

    Connor’s House 5K Photos & Info – April 21, 2013

We had a great time at the 5K this weekend, not only holding a successful race but also raising funds to help Connor’s House families.

You can check out the race results online to see how people did, or view more than 100 pictures from the race right here at the Connor’s House website or on our Facebook Page. Here are some samples.

  • Ryan’s Story

Ryan was born at 28 weeks gestation, and battled mitochondrial disease.  He relied on a ventilator to breathe, a central line for nutrition and blood products for anemia. But he was dearly loved and cared for by his parents, Kevin and Danielle, and his big brothers Colin, Shane & Taylor. Danielle spent countless hours reading and cuddling with Ryan, playing Thomas the Train Engine and Littlest Pet Shoppe. Ryan did not have a long life, but every day he knew he was loved by his family. Always loved. When it was apparent Ryan’s life was coming to an end, his family was determined that he spend his last days at home. Ryan passed away at 19 months old.

“It’s so very important in those incredibly precious hours to be able to just be a family, sharing moments, loving each other, and knowing their child is cared for in the best way possible. I believe Connor’s House will make these moments very special to these very special families and children,” said Ryan’s mother, Danielle.

  • Connor’s House Annual Campaign

Your support makes it possible for Connor’s House to provide assistance to families of children with life-threatening illnesses, to help them keep their loved one at home. With your gift Connor’s House can give families the strength to get through the toughest days, navigate the web of the bureaucracies needed to care for their children, and endure the emotional strain of caring for a beloved family member 24 hours a day.

Please consider making an one time gift of $10, $25, $50 or more for these families. Or make a monthly gift of just $10, $25 or $50 a month — pennies a day — means the world to these families.

  • Legislation Introduced To Create Children’s Respite Homes

New Jersey Assemblyman Dan Benson introduced Assembly Bill A3558 on Monday, a bill that — when it becomes law — will instruct the NJ Department of Health to develop regulations supporting the creation of children’s respite homes.  This is a vital step in our efforts to build the physical Connor’s House.

The future Connor’s House facility will provide families of children with life-threatening illnesses with palliative, respite and end-of-life care in a friendly, home-like environment. Children will stay and rest for short periods of time – generally two days to two weeks – and interact with other kids and families sharing similar experiences.
